Clara has been sharing her recipes, history and advice on UA-cam since 2007. I would give anything to have her here right now to witness all the love you have given her, it is truly overwhelming. Thank you so much for showing her how important she still is. The outpouring of love you gave her while she was still with us absolutely changed her life. When she was young she wanted to act on the st...
Clara's Christmas Memories
Переглядів 197 тис.2 роки тому
Merry Christmas. Please enjoy some of our memories of Clara at this special time. Clara loved Christmas. It was a time for her to bake cookies, visit old friends and be with the whole family. One Christmas we brought her to visit us in New York City. She had always hoped to see the "Big Tree" at Rockefeller center. As you can see, the joy on her face transported her back into being a kid during...
Great Depression Cooking - Making Espresso with Sweet Crema

Clara's Recipes: www.welcometoclaraskitchen.com/recipes No one who knew Clara ever saw her drink a single glass of water. We all used to marvel how she would only drink coffee. She drank American coffee in the morning and Italian Espresso in the afternoon. Occasionally she would add a special sweet froth into the Espresso, a kind of Crema cheat for stovetop Espresso pots, and here's how she did...

Strong Grandma - Audio Memories with Clara
Переглядів 82 тис.4 роки тому
Clara refused to let age become an obstacle to her abilities. She used a push mower to mow her lawn until she was 91. If she couldn't get a ride (or wait for a late ride) she would often walk into town to get what she needed done.
Nurse Doll - Audio Memories with Clara

A special thanks to all of the Nurses and Essential Workers out there for keeping us safe during this time of Covid 19. Nana loved to tell stories over coffee and cards. Though we didn't videotape all of them, I recently discovered some audio we recorded a long time ago. Please feel free to listen to some of our family's favorite stories told by Clara.
Great Depression Cooking - Pasta & Peas - Higher Quality
Переглядів 1,2 млн4 роки тому
This was the very first video we uploaded, way back in May 2007. We got 24 views the day we uploaded "Pasta & Peas," and they were probably all friends and family. We we happy that our families recipes were being preserved for our future generations and figured that's where it would all end. Nana has obviously touched more hearts besides our own and we are so happy that she continues to teach h...
Great Depression Cooking - Aglio e Olio (Garlic Pasta) - The Lost Episode

The Lost Episode. In 2007 four Great Depression Cooking episodes were filmed. Tapes from the fourth episode, “Pasta Aglio e Olio (Garlic Pasta),” went missing and the episode never aired. In 2009, with the help of Clara and her granddaughter Abby, we attempted to recreate the missing footage. Now that episode will finally appear on UA-cam for you to enjoy.
Great Depression Cooking - The Poorman's Meal - Higher Resolution
Переглядів 9 млн4 роки тому
Clara's Poorman's Meal is one of my favorite dishes. It was the reason we began this channel. I could never remember just how Nana made it, and being a visual person, what better way to have the recipe than as a video. This is a higher resolution version of Clara's Poorman's Meal video. It was shot in SD and now up-resed to HD. Not perfect, but a big improvement from the 2007 UA-cam standard of...

Similar idea to milk toast.
My grandma laid her egg noodles on the bed sometimes to dry.
Wow, sis Clara just tell us a story about a Depression era "Karen"? Who in their right mind goes over to a neighbor's house and helps themselves to anything?
I love her❤❤❤❤
UA-cam recommended me this after 15 years. And I really loved it...thank u yt for recommending me this...will forever remember this grandma and her cute cooking ❤🤧🤍
💖🌹🌹
Happy heavenly Birthday Clara! Yesterday I cooked Clara’s Pasta with Broccoli! I was sceptic because of my husband, but he loved it. And I think it is healthy. Her book always lies next to me on the table in the evenings. Thank you so much for the video and all videos. From Germany with love and blessings for your family!
$1 in 1935 bought a sack of potatoes. Today that dollar would be worth about $32. Imagine paying $32 for a sack of potatoes. If that doesn't make you feel poor, I don't know what would.
I remember old bread, got sliced and dried. When there was enough we had bread soup.
Been used to dandelion all my life. As a kid we used it only in the spring, then I skipped a few years living on my own. Once I had a garden and yard again the whole plant gets used, pretty much year round, including the roots, roasted makes a delicious "coffee". And the blossom buds she discarded taste wonderful.
Thank you for sharing her with us! She sure was a special person I just found today. ❤
Precious ❤
Lovely and at 91 double lovely! Cutting any meat into smaller peaces, making a stew etc stretches far! Today's hotdogs are expensive if you dont want the mostly fat kind, but other sausage works just fine that way. Not just a poor man's meal!
My Mom passed at 92 1/2 years old and my Dad at 95 1/2 years. They had great stories to tell and wisdom galore about life. I agree with @liberty5069 Whenever people reach this age, whatever they have to say, just listen.....
Hi 👋 pretty lady how are you doing today and the weather condition like
you're the best, grandma Clara
Rest in peace dear Clara.
Love listening to her stories.
I just had to watch her cook.
Nice kind lady. So patient and calm.
I still watch her videos.❤
Rest in Peace Clara! We miss you but it was a blessing and still is to see you.
she,s not real, its ...those things
After a bad day watching this even for the 20th time brings such calmness and comfort ☺️
Me too 💕
I feel like rice and beans with the hot dogs would be better for u.
I always loved watching Clara. Sporadically I'll get recommendations from her channel, but for some reason it's always the poor man's dinner (or feast) episode. She did many others. I made her biscotti recipe --it was perfect!
Looks Delicious 😋 Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. I will definitely make this.
My mom made this with Kielbasa ❤
Hi 👋 pretty lady how are you doing today and the weather condition like
I wish I had found Clara years ago on UA-cam. She reminds me so much of my Nonne who was the same age at the same time! Thank you for these videos!
Looks really good Mrs Clara
Lovely and simple... thank you, I’d have to add some grated cheese in the last 5 min though 😋
I was raised the same and eat similar still too this day, My grandmother grew up in the depression, all the money in the world can't buy you a meal if you cant get everything thing that is advertised and sold in the stores for consumption. Fat, butter, bacon grease, which i use to cook eggs in still instead of oil, chicken scraps, soups and custard as a dessert was always my grandmas favorites for saving and not spending extra. Bless Clara!!! R.I.P.
I’ve just started watching Clara, and I’m really enjoying her. I love to find out what the food was like in the depression because people didn’t have much. I love the stories she tells about how she lived through the depression and what her views were. I could listen to her stories all day. Makes me miss my grandma. We should really sit and talk to these older people, especially a 92 year old. Their stories are intriguing and we would learn so much. I was just thinking what a 92 year old who experienced all of the history could tell us. They LIVED it! I think if I was a history teacher, I’d invite a woman like this to come to my class and tell her story and answer the pupils questions. Better than any book.
today while scrolling through youtube, clara's channel suddenly came to my mind because i remember watching her videos fondly a couple of years back and by some miracle before i could even search for it, this video suddenly appeared in my suggestions as i was scrolling. it happened in a split second. this isn't even the same account i used when i watched her videos in the past. it's like youtube really read my mind.
So beautiful. Love and respect. What a wonderful grandson.❤
So humble, she gave us recipes from history she lived through.
These videos are important to me because since I'll be broke for a long time these will come in very handy for me.
with todays inflation, this would be considered a billionaires breakfast but good luck ig
This is like flipping through reminiscence magazIne
Every millennial should watch this...they have no clue how hard life was.
Her kitchen looks very like the kitchen I grew up with in the 50’s and 60’s.
I ate this growing up! Love it still to this day. We put ketchup on after it was cooked, will try the couple tablespoons sauce though. Thank you!
I love you Clara , I wish I found your channel prior to her passing! God rest her soul ❤💫😇🙏🦋🌟
Aww Clara’s gone rest in peace my daring friend! She’s such a sweet woman , my condolences to her family and God Bless her family and her friends for her loss ! ❤💫🙏🌟
Hi
I’m watching this in 2024 to survive :)
Glad you caught the potential thief Clara. She has no right stealing your hard earned work in the garden
